Jesus Revealed In The Passover Story Part 4

Seder meal

“When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him.   15) Then He said to them, ‘With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;   16) for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.’

17) Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, ‘Take this and divide it among yourselves;   18) for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.’

19) And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’

20) Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.”  (Luke 22:14-20 NKJV)

I have had the opportunity, to participate in several Passover meals, known as the Seder, (order).   This is solemnly practiced by our Jewish brothers and sisters.   In this study, we will show how Jesus is portrayed in every element.

The illustration below is what is contained on the Seder plate, and what each element represents.   This does not include the beforehand, Hors d’Oeuvres, matza, or the main course, Lamb.

The Matza, (unleavened bread), in this case has a special name.  It comes actually from the Greek, not Hebrew.   It is called, Afikoman, and the meaning comes from the Greek (epikomion), to reveal!   It is our intention to help you see, the hidden truths of the Seder meal, revealing Jesus.

At the beginning of the meal, three pieces of matza, are places in the Afikoman pouches.   These are supposed to represent, Father Abraham, his son Issac, and grandson Jacob.   I believe there is a deeper meaning.   The matza has no leaven, (sin).   If you look at a square of matza, you can see it has marks on it.   It has stripes, is bruised, and is pierced with holes.   The MIDDLE piece, is taken out of the pouch, and BROKEN in half.   One half is hidden behind a pillow.   When the meal is over, the children search for the hidden piece.   There is great joy when the piece is found.   The children are asked what they would like as their prize, for the discovery.   They are then given “the promise of the Father“, a coin, or gift, as a reward.

To break it down in terms we can understand.   The middle piece of the Trinity, that is sinless, striped, bruised, and pierced, is hidden in the grave, behind the stone.   Why would we break Issac in half, and hide him?   Only one person fits this description.   At the resurrection from the grave, of the Afikoman, there is great joy.   The promise of the father, goes along with the joy.

Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”  (Luke 24:49 NKJV).

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.   2) And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.   3) Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.   4) And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”  (Acts 2:1-4 NKJV).

We see here that the “promise of the Father”, is none other than the Holy Spirit.   Can you see what is hidden right before our eyes?   Father God, is all about patterns, and foreshadowing.   He reveals Himself, in every part of scripture.   The story from Genesis to Revelation, is the story of Jesus.

We have explained the truth of Jesus, being the Passover Lamb.   Who came to pay the price for our sins, as a sinless sacrifice, by dying on a cruel cross.   After being broken, striped, bruised, and pierced.   He was in the grave, for three days, and came back to life, and lives forever.

We wrap up this teaching today.   I pray this series has made a difference in your life.   If you have not asked Jesus into your heart today, please do it now.   It will be the best decision you will ever make.   CHRIS
